Award Winning Timber Frame Home

"Gold Medal" - Residential $500,000 - $750,000

This residence is in Moultonboro, New Hampshire on the shores of Squam Lake. The house was designed by Tom Samyn of Timberframe Design, Inc. in Ashland, NH. and features eastern white pine timber frames.

Nestled into its sloping site to avoid disturbing the natural grade, the home has its entry at ground level, with bedrooms above and living spaces and kitchen on the lower floor, providing easy access to the lake.

At the entry level is a Mudroom and open Connector which provides covered access to the Garage.

Down half a level, one reaches the main living spaces, with the Kitchen and Dining areas to the left and a cathedral Great Room in the center behind an imposing stone chimney. Beyond to the right are another Guest Room and Bath, plus a Game Room facing the lake.

Up half a level from the entry are the bedrooms, with two Guest Bedrooms and shared Bath on the right, and the Master Bedroom suite on the left. There is also a spiral stair leading up to the Loft, which offers both privacy and the best possible views of Squam Lake. A screened porch beyond the Kitchen allows one to dine outside during May, and tucked under the entry are a workshop, sauna, and utility spaces.

Custom designed over-sized trim, and large overhangs shade the house from both sun and snow, and the exposed rafters and braces hint of the soaring frames within. The open Connector to the Garage provides both shelter and a convenient place to store dry firewood.

The house includes many examples of local materials: eastern white pine for the structural frames, the massive stone fireplace which dominates the lower level Great Room, and a traditional Shingle-style exterior with a minimum of cedar trim. The interior has vertical tongue and groove boards on the exterior walls, and simple wood finishes throughout. The natural colors and simple palette of materials reinforce the home´s character as a rustic but elegant getaway.
