Award Winning Timber Frame Home

"Gold" - Single Family Detached $500,000 - $700,000

This house is the fulfillment of a twenty-year dream. The owners bought an antique Cape for its remote site and spectacular views, and spent their vacations there every year. But they dreamed of a new retirement home, which would be more comfortable and spacious, and take advantage of the panoramic views. The new house, timber framed like the antique, is set on a high piece of land to the north and west of the cozy antique, which now serves as a guesthouse.

When walking through the front door into the open entry, one is immediately greeted by the spectacular views out the back. The openness of the great room, with its Douglas fir hammer beam trusses, leads one’s eye to the north wall of the great room, which consists of two sets of sliding patio doors with custom arched windows above. This grand wall of glass has a view across a valley and wooded slopes to mountains in the distance.

The dining room and kitchen are to the right or east. They both share the same views, with the kitchen at the front of the house. The owner’s previous home can be seen through the back windows of the kitchen. With its u-shape, counters wrapping the entire back wall, ample cabinet space and a large working island with bar sink and cook top, this kitchen is ideal for the serious cook. Beyond the kitchen to the east is a sunroom intended for more casual meals, especially breakfast.

To the left of the entry is a laundry/utility room, mudroom and a stairway leading up to an open loft. The loft serves as an office, and overlooks the master bedroom with its stone fireplace and built-in cabinets. A large walk-in closet, and generous master bathroom complete the suite. The master bathroom features a custom shower, whirlpool, and twin lavatories. With windows on three sides, it too shares the wonderful views. The central staircase at the right of the entry leads up to a large guest bedroom with a full bath. With the guesthouse available, there was no need for more bedrooms.

The area surrounding this home was disrupted as little as possible so as not to take away from natural beauty of the land. Boulders removed during excavation were stacked in a modern version of a stonewall in front of the house, and the existing ancient stonewalls were preserved. Finally, there is a screened-in gazebo for outdoor appreciation of the views from this very special and well-loved site.
