Take a 3D Tour of this Home

This award winning home was designed as a winter home for an artist and his wife who summer on Nantucket. They were very specific about having a French country look, which was achieved with pine board and batten siding, arched top windows, stone veneer at the entry, and steeply pitched roofs. The three and one-half acre lot is part of a development, with the entry on the west side under a timber-framed porch.  Once through the custom arched entry door, one is in a cathedral space with stairs to the left, timber framed balcony overhead, and lavatory and coatroom to the right. Beyond is the living room, which features a stone fireplace and massive window wall facing the view to the east. To the south are the dining room and kitchen. A brick two-sided fireplace is shared between the dining room and sun porch.

The kitchen has country pine paneled cupboards and trim, to match the pine timber framing. A red-stained pantry and island, plus a retro-styled Elmira range in its own brick niche and white porcelain farm sink turn this into a cozy, traditional kitchen. The sun porch has a tiled floor and windows to the south and east, giving sunlight and views of the yard and gardens.

A special request was an “away room,” where they could read and watch television. Tucked off the living room on the west side, near the entry, this room has built-in cabinets and a television. There is a large window seat where one can curl up with a good book. On the north side of the first floor is the master bedroom, with a four-poster bed and attached master bath and walk-in closet. The bath has painted custom dry sink with lavatory installed.

Upstairs is a balcony overlooking the living room and entry, with one bedroom over the master bedroom suite, and the second on the south side with its own deck over the sun porch below. A full bath is shared with the artist’s studio over the two-car garage. The studio has three dormers and a large arched double window at the west gable end to provide natural light. It is separated from the rest of the house by a door, and has both a sink and work counter at one end, and build-in storage along the eaves.

The owners had very specific image in mind for their house. They wanted privacy, and the casual comfort of a country house. The combination of French-influenced exterior and pine timber framed interior gave them what they wanted: a simple looking house, with some cathedral public spaces on the inside, plus a cozy kitchen dining area to suit their private lifestyle.

Every stage was exciting, fun and rewarding. We loved the process and did not want it to end. Our Timberpeg Rep was amazing. We loved working with him and give him an A+ for all he did. We cannot imagine how you could possibly improve your operation. It is top-notch!
